wilson, n.c. — november 24, 2020 — close to 1,000 items were delivered by barton college on monday to hope station and the st. john community development corporation as part of the barton students’ november donation drive this fall. students, faculty, and staff of the barton campus participated in the drive, as well as members of the greater wilson community who contributed items during the drive-through luminaries celebration event held on campus last week. in addition, barton college’s assistant professor of theatre dorothy austin-harrell and her wife, amanda, made masks for the students at st. john cdc.
barton alumna and americorps vista service engagement coordinator megan hickey oversaw the donation drive, which was sponsored through the office of the chaplain on campus. “i am incredibly grateful to work with my alma mater to give back to my hometown simultaneously, shared hickey. “i was overwhelmed by the student involvement and how much support and help i was able to receive from barton’s faculty and staff. we are so pleased to be able to support these worthy organizations, especially at this time of year.”
